Das Stelzenteil ist der Time Orb. Recht nettes Spielzeug um den Gegner zu ärgern mit noch weiteren Optionen für die Zukunft.

Und hier für die Klickfaulen:

Empire of the Blazing Sun - Tsukuyomi Class War Gyro

Zitat:
If your aerial units have been clever (some would say lucky) enough to outmaneuver the squadrons of fighters, and avoid obliteration by the torrent of rockets launching from any supporting Inari Class Scout Gyros, you better be praying you don’t wander within range of the Tsukuyomi Class War Gyro. This guardian of the skies keeps a watchful eye over its fellow aerial companians with some brutal firepower. Its main turrets are specifically designed to track, and destroy anything unlucky enough to assume the sky is big enough to share. Think you’ve evaded its sights? Unlikely, you should just count yourself lucky you’ve been allowed to stay in one piece that long! Trust only that, if you’ve seen them, then you’re minutes away from a very quick descent …and a flaming one at that.

The Prussian Empire - Gewitterwolke Class Airship

Zitat:
The dull pulsing engines of the Gewitterwolke Class Airship are often heard, but rarely do you see this airship emerge from the stormy skies until it is too late. With a crackling, thunderous shriek the Fore Tesla Coil unleashes hurt on any unfortunate enemy foolish enough to stray into the path of this aerial Armageddon. You may also want to reconsider your position should you be ill-fated enough to be darkened by its shadow; the arsenal of bombs this flyer carries ensure it leaves little standing in its wake.

Kingdom of Britannia Eagle Class War Rotor

Zitat:
The Kingdom of Britannia Eagle Class War Rotor is a marvel of her majesty’s Flying Corp and the pride of any pilot that is granted the honour of captaining one. Years of engineering have gone into the development of this flying behemoth, and the utilisation of hybrid rotor driven propulsion and Sturginium-enhanced Anti-Gravitation generators, allows thousands of tonnes of British steel to glide into the sky above the battlefield, much to the horror of its foes.

BildBild

Zitat:
Designing this model was a lot of fun and one I’d been looking forward to making since the early days of Dystopian Wars’ development. I had the thumbnail concept sitting in my sketchbook for a long, long time, so long it started turning into an itch I was desperate to scratch. Once I built it, putting together many of my new ideas for the design, I then developed a new itch as I had to again wait for the chance to share it with the numerous Britannian commanders out there. And now I can…

For me this model is a wonderful hybrid of the iconic Britannian naval prow, captured at last with an underside to match and the rotor ended arms giving the ship a menacing profile from almost any angle.

Covenant of Antarctica - Daedalus Class Large Flyer

The Covenant of Antarctica is led by scholars and scientists, people who are students of history and myth. While the Prometheus Dreadnought is the self-appointed archetype of their philosophy, it is the Daedalus that is, it could be postulated, the truer example of their mission. Named after the mythical father of Icarus, the Daedalus is a war machine born of risk and ingenuity.

Trying to think like a rebellious scientist when coming up with concepts for CoA vehicles is perhaps the trickiest bit of making them. The best way to do it is to avoid general conventions for military vehicles; these are ships and vessels made by men of learning, not men of war. Balancing that with a utilitarian idea of where is the optimal place for features such as bridges and turrets to go (usually where they should normally go!) and it becomes an interesting design to nail. The end result tends to be something of a hybrid between convention and invention, and that is, I believe, what gives the CoA their unique style.

The Daedalus is a prime example of this, several standard conventions are kept to keep the firing arcs as they are intended, but features like the propulsion and levitation systems have in them some more interesting turns. I tried to capture the feel of the Callimachus’ opening mechanism on the side vectoring thrusters, as I love the notion of these massive objects folding back panels to reveal a host of strange and magnificent technologies. All told, the Daedalus is one of my favourite CoA vessels so far and I hope the other Covenant military commanders agree.

Federated States of America - Valley Class Airship

Auch der amerikanische Riesenflieger sieht recht gut aus!

New and revolutionary sciences have turned the skies of Dystopian Wars into a deadly arena, where massive airships and rotorcraft fill the air with fire and fury. Last to unveil its Large Flyer is the Federated States of America, a menacing tri-hull airship that hurls death at anything foolish enough to engage it in combat.

We were always very happy with the original Valley design, but as it was a very early model in the development of Dystopian Wars, when the newer large flyers were developed we took the decision to beef it up a little to better suit the class of ship. The first sculpt was a fun airship, but there wasn’t enough Steampunk to it! So at last we give you the new Valley, a mass of tethered airships arrayed with Gatling turrets and racks of devastating bombs. This monstrous construction gives us a suitably menacing profile to darken the skies above enemy territory.

Gunships aplenty!

The Dystopian Wars Gunships are a demonstration of military might suited to each nations particular style of warfare. Each is a deadly machine of war in their own right, but in subtly different fashions. But at their heart is one simple tactic: head on assault.

Bild

Designing these was an interesting process as we had to go back to rules to give these ships the flavour we felt they needed. Rather than just up-gunned cruisers these vessels each have a distinct style of warfare that fills a niche for each fleet.

Empire of the Blazing Sun - Tanuki Class Gunship

Bild

The Blazing Sun Tanuki Class Gunship has the firepower and flexibility that many of the Empress’ ships lack, her main turret can deal out damage all round while the fore torpedoes cut into the enemy lines. All the while rockets will be falling from the skies in fiery destruction.

Federated States of America - Princeton Class Gunship

Bild

The FSA, however, have developed a different role for their Gunship, the Princeton class is an artillery emplacement on the water, its large turret reigning death and destruction from afar along with a healthy dose of rockets to boot. It does, however, have the speed to outmanoeuvre the enemy and reposition as it needs to.

Prussian Empire - Hussar Class Gunship

Bild

The Prussian Hussar’s role is as obtuse as the Prussian aesthetic, and with two fore mounted turrets and an internal Tesla Generator, it is a ship to be feared from near or afar. Deadly on approach and even deadly within your ranks the Hussar may lack the compliment of assault marines other Prussian ships are known for, but it is by no means a ship to be ignored. Better to sink it fast.

Kingdom of Britannia - Agincourt Class Gunship

Bild

The British Agincourt class Gunship is the cavalry of the sea, designed to flank in firing its turret and torpedoes into the fray and as it swings past the deadly 180 degree torpedo turret unleashed further death and mayhem as the Agincourt continues on to harass the rest of the enemy fleet.

Covenant of Antarctica - Zeno Class Armoured Cruiser

Bild

Last, but by no means least, is the Zeno Armoured Cruiser. The Covenant of Antarctica have forgone the more traditional designation for a heavy hulled monster that has a fearful broadside to unleash and a host of mines to litter the waves with. The Zeno has forgone the flexibility of turrets for one of the Covenant’s most powerful experimental weapons; the Particle Accelerator.

Empire of the Blazing Sun - Kiyohime Class Assault Carrier

The Kiyohime Assault Carrier plays a similar, albeit slightly different, role to the Tenkei Sky Fortress in the Blazing Sun’s Navy. The Tenkei may have more planes to bring to the fight, but with its rugged construction and powerful turret the Kiyohime is a force in its own right. A host of broadside weaponry and fore torpedoes complement the turret making this Assault Carrier a perfect addition to your naval forces, buried among your fleet it will hold its own while launching its deadly fighters and torpedo bombers into the fray.

Bild

Designing the Kiyohime was a fun process, the Japanese aesthetic has been one of my favourites since the early days of Dystopian Wars, they were a pain at first trying to come up with their unique style, and it wasn’t until I did a tiny thumbnail sketch of the cruiser that their whole aesthetic came together. Since then it’s been enormous fun making new ships for the growing Imperial Fleet, and carriers are no exception.

Prussian Empire - Rhine Class Fleet Carrier

As the sister carrier to the iconic Imperium Class Sky Fortress, the Rhine Class Fleet Carrier has a lot to live up to, but it does well to hold its own in two ways. 1) its broadsides may have a short range, but their Range Band 1 attack is devastating to almost any vessel. 2) anything hanging back in fear is just as vulnerable to the monstrous fore bombard. The Rhine makes for a good support vessel on the water and while it may not fit the blitzkrieg doctrine of the Imperium Sky Fortress, its role in the fleet is no less useful.

Bild

I usually describe the Prussian aesthetic in one word; obtuse. There is a no nonsense approach that the Prussians take to their ships, utilitarianism and modern design, flat angled panelling concealing the serpentine wires that power the Tesla weaponry. My favourite part is the faraday mesh grills that protect the Prussians from their own deadly electrical weapons. Concealing the flight deck behind those grills was almost the first idea for the ship, and everything seemed to fall into place after that. The Rhine is one of those ships that almost designs itself from the outset and I am sure it will make a good addition to the Prussian fleets out there.

Metgzer Approved!

With each ship comes the intensely meticulous process of approval; everything from the shape of the hull, to the hinges of the doors. But most importantly, more than anything …does Metzger approve? Does the Rhine meet the deeply methodical and scientific testing stages put forth by our iron giant?

…yes, yes it does.

Bild

* Before you ask, sadly the ‘Metzger-Rhine War Surfer’ will not be going into production.

Korvetten

The corvette is among the smallest naval class vessel to be deployed on the Dystopian seas. Stripped down to the bare essentials they are small and agile allowing superior tacticians to effectively use them to speed into battle, whether it be to initiate a swift first strike or to distract enemy fire!

Federated States of America - Revere Class Corvette
Bild

The Federated States of America initially scrapped their plans for such a small fighting ship. It was decided that the resources required to produce a steam vessel with such an undersized presence amongst a fleet could be better spent elsewhere. However, after reviewing a design by a relatively unknown engineer who’s inspired patriotism had lead him and a small team to create a small, easy to produce steam vessel that did not require a dockyard to build the FSA gave the go-ahead for the corvette.

Kingdom of Britannia - Swift Class Corvette
Bild

The Britannian Corvette’s initial design was that of a short range scouting vessel. After earning its stripes in a number of sorties and rescue missions however the ship’s build profile was upgraded to accommodate a fore turret and improved armour surrounding the magazine which is positioned directly below the gun itself. Some distinct features remain however, such as the starboard searchlight and more civilian looking cabin.

Prussian Empire - Saxony Class Corvette
Bild

The Prussian Corvette was designed from the very beginning to be an effective small fighter. Additional armour was later added to the bow but other than that its profile is identical to that of the blue-prints that gave birth to it. It is a welcome sight for crews of Prussian fleet ships immersed in the heat of battle as it races alongside to support its fellow naval vessels.

Empire of the Blazing - Fujin Class Corvette
Bild

The Blazing Sun Corvette is a prototype vessel that comes with an unfortunate reputation of being unstable as a fighting ship. Additional armour and shielding were added to the bow to deflect fire away from the exposed front and mid-section which proved to have plating too thin to stand up to incoming projectiles designed for penetration. It is not unknown for these vessels to be seen exploding on the distant horizon. Their crews however remain ever loyal to their cause. The ship’s saving grace is its ease to manufacture and the shear speeds that can be achieved by the vessel once it has built up some momentum!

Covenant of Antarctica - Thales Class Corvette
Bild

The Thales was a continuation of the design presented by the Diogenes Frigate, a ship built with aesthetics more in mind that practicality. The inventors and scientists of the Covenant of Antarctica, lacking the utilitarian push of a unified military doctrine give their vessels character first and practicality second. This approach did give rise to the nature mimicking small vessels and the speed boost provided by their streamlined shape. The Thales is a prime example of this, with its weapon housed in its swept back brackets, it retains the deadly speed of its counterparts by sacrificing the versatility of its main weapon. This reduced the Thales to a niche role in fast attack and patrol, but it was a welcome addition to the waters surrounding the Antarctican continent.

Fangt schon mal an zu sparen...

Zitat:
Hi All,

Just a short post to give you an idea of the upcoming developments for our alternative reality Victorian Sci-Fi game Dystopian Wars. I'll keep it to bullet points for ease of consumption:

• By January 2012 we will have released all of the combat models detailed in the Dystopian Wars Master Rulebook
• As I'm sure you are aware, we are always reviewing the contents of our rulebooks and as we near the time for a new print run of the Dystopian Wars Master Rulebook, this review process has become even more focused. As such, the new print run will include all current errata and a review of some of the current wording in the rules text.
• Additionally we will use this chance to re-check the current point and stat values of certain models. This is NOT a wholesale alteration of the Nations, but it is important for us to make adjustments we feel are warranted for gameplay
• Please note that this is categorically NOT V2.0 of the Dystopian Wars rules and any amends to the Master Rulebook and / or Stats will also be made available as PDF downloads.

To keep you fully in the loop, the roll out of Dystopian Wars models from the first book will be as follows:

November 2011
Scenery Part 1 (5 x Sets: Military, Airfield, Industrial, Town and Modular Weapons Platform)
Covenant of Antarctica Blisters (Battleship, Cruisers, Frigates, Tiny Flyers and Bombers)

December
Large Flyers
Corvettes
Gunships

January
Mobile Airfields
2 x Fleet Carriers (Empire of the Blazing Sun & Prussian Empire)
2 x Sky Fortresses (Kingdom of Britannia & Federated States of America)

February
Scenery Part 2

All the best,
Spartan Neil

Das Jahresende wird teuer für mich ;).

Federated States of America - Savannah Class Sky Fortress

The Savannah Class Sky Fortress is one of the most complicated war machines the Federated States of America has built to date. A host of rigid balloons have been tethered together and supported by innumerable gravity defying contraptions, and all to keep this giant carrier floating above a battlefield.

Bild

Its armoured compartments and flight decks are home to all manner of deadly weapons and fighters ready to let fly into battle. It is truly an awesome behemoth and any opponent who comes face to face with this carrier should prepare themselves for a fight to remember.

Bild

Even among the FSA this beast has a deadly reputation, as only the FSA’s top aerial aces are assigned to the Savannahs, as the task of landing the agile P-8 Prowler fighter plane on the offset lower deck proved too much for green pilots to achieve. This has led to the moniker of ‘Savannah Hunter’ becoming synonymous with ‘Ace’ among the airfields of the FSA. Thanks to the acrobatic pilots of the FSA this double decked flying monster is a most powerful weapon in the FSA’s arsenal.

Bild

Zeppelin aircraft carriers are fun to put together in your mind, the Prussian Imperium Sky Fortress is a great example of this. It is, after all, a pretty mad concept and any solution to putting a flight deck on a balloon is going to be interesting. When I had to think about putting two decks on the Savannah, well it was always going to be a challenge. That said, I hope the final design pleases FSA commanders out there. Tethering multiple balloons to the sides and bottom of the decks gives the whole thing a hulking, sprawling mass that hopefully intimidates their opposition.

BildBild
Bild

Also diese Skyfortress sieht schon verdammt cool aus, da bin ich gespannt, wie die Skyfortress des KoB ausfällt.

Kingdom of Britannia - Illustrious Class Sky Fortress

High above the waves the Illustrious Class Sky Fortress gracefully glides into battle, held aloft by six gigantic manoeuvring rotors and the Royal Engineering Corps’ most advanced Sturginium Gravitation Generators. But do not let the majestic soaring fool you, this is a beast born for war, with a host of deadly and devastating weapons that it brings to the fight. It can pummel you with turret fire while deadly squadrons of fighters and fighter bombers launch, ready to bring even more death and destruction to the fray. Illustrious is the name of this model, but its enemies may perhaps rename it to Infamous once they’ve felt its wrath in battle.

Bild

Hot on the heels of the Eagle Class War Rotor, the Illustrious is a mean carrier. The final result is a progression of the design ethos that goes into the Britannian fleet, that good old fashioned industrial revolution aesthetic taken to new, and in this case, literal, height of design.

Bild

With a big centrepiece model like this we have spent more time on the rotors. We always need to be conscious of the physical size of such things as rotors, not being broken off during gaming and so on, but we’ve made the rotors on this model larger than previous models. The rotors are also in two parts, allowing the pewter prop to be glued at differing angles, and the resin rotor arm can be rotated as well.

This is a great support model to have in your fleet, and we think it is a great choice for Britannian commanders to bring to the fight.

Würd ich nicht eh schon CoA sammeln... jetzt wäre es um mich geschehen.

Covenant of Antarctica - Epicurus Class Sky Fortress

The Covenant of Antarctica rebelled from the paths of other nations, striking out to pursue their own destiny through the application of reason and science. In the barren snowfields of Antarctica this fledgling race has built incredible weapons of war which roll forth to wage war. Machines of stunning ingenuity, the coastal waters are filled with vessels whose craftsmanship is only matched by their capacity for destruction.

The skies are blackened by shadows of monstrous size, the shadows of machines that defy gravity and reason with the same indomitable force that brings life to the nation state of Antarctica – Technology.

Bild

It is with subtle irony that the Epicurus Class Sky Fortress is named for a man devoted to attaining a state free of fear, in peace and tranquillity, when this monster sows nothing but death and mayhem. In the end that is the purpose of the Covenant, and this vessel, along with all their machines of war, is but a means to that end. The entire vessel, however, is a unique twist on the carrier concept. Instead of an open deck, the Covenant’s unmanned drone fighters are shot, rather than launched into the fray, from the monstrous turret atop this strange ship, with rows upon rows of spare drones ready to be fed into the barrel. But this isn’t merely a launch vessel, its broadsides and turrets will make quick work of the enemy, and in the event that is not enough, there are plenty of spare drones ready for an all too short flight, their propulsion systems and volatile fuel making for an effective warhead.

Bild

Designing this beast was quite a task, all the other sky fortresses took different directions to what a flying carrier should be, making one for the already radically different Covenant of Antarctica took a special kind of difference. The two flyers the Covenant already have evolved nicely in design going from something more ship shape to something more abstract. The Sky Fortress took a page from the crab walker in style with its main turrets under-slung to give room for the massive lunch turret. It was a lot of fun and a tricky task to make this monster into what it is today but anything that had a turret that shoots fighters was going to be an opportunity to relish.

Kingdom of Britannia - Brunel Mobile Airfield

Endlich kommt es... und es ist gewaltig!

Picture the scene: a battlefield ravaged by artillery ordnance, giant tanks destroyed by lumbering robots and Sturginium-powered Generators ripping vehicles apart. Then, through the thick smoke that now hangs over the battlefield a monolithic machine slowly moves over the ground, its giant tracks ripping the ground up beneath it, buildings crushed as easily as a bug under foot and soldiers fleeing before it in fear. As the machine emerges from the smoke all becomes clear; a massive Kingdom of Britannia Mobile Airfield creeps to war, its weapons blazing and its aircraft taking off to find their next prey.

It’s easy to feel inspired to make Dystopian Wars models sitting in a train station, nothing is more emblematic of the Industrial Revolution than the rail network, something that survives to this day as a testament to the ingenuity of that age, an ingenuity we’ve tried to capture in our models. Almost every city in England has a great station that dates back to those days, and it was London’s St. Pancras in particular that inspired me to design the Brunel Mobile Airfield in this way.

I’d started admiring the arched supports, making a note for future reference, not knowing that I would end up using the whole roof as a reference to go on the top of the model. We end up with something that is a cross between a train station and an aircraft hangar covering the massive flight deck, and with a homage to the Brunel’s little brother; the Sovereign Land Ship.

Kagoshima Class Mobile Airfield

The Kagoshima Class Mobile Airfield is, according to its creator Koichiro Nakayama, a “symbolic representation of the Empire of the Blazing Sun's majestic power and might”. To most other people it is a humoungous representation of what you can do with tens of thousands of tons of Sturginium enhanced metal!

Bild

At 608 feet long, 280 feet tall and 288 feet wide this is an amazing feat of engineering. Only the elite, the truly gifted pilots of the Empire are allowed to serve on a Kagoshima. This is, in part, because of its privileged status in the Empire’s military, but also because take offs and landings are not a trivial matter. Landings at the rear of the model are made under the massive Shinto/Shrine command centre, and you really do not want to make a hash of that approach.

This is the most complicated model I have made for Dystopian Wars and although I got a bit carried away with its detailing, the result is exactly what I had hoped for. The Shinto/Shrine building at the rear is a component I am very proud of, right down to the banners, and I think it captures the aesthetic of ornate oriental buildings, like the Iwashimizu Hachiman-gū shrine in Kyoto. I’m really looking forward to making more Blazing Sun ground vehicles in 2012.
